| Sister Sandwich
were "baptised" as Sister Savage and the Buggered Nuns way back
in 1992. The guys got together for a "one-off" gig to cover for
a band who had pulled out of a local (Shropshire ooh aaaaah!) charity gig.
Despite being bottled off the stage the boys enjoyed the experience so much
they decided to go to casualty and having been patched up they vowed to
continue their holy crusade for noise.
The fact that the band rely almost entirely on cover versions of other songs was mere coincidence as the boys had only time to scratch together a few songs in the short time leading up to their first gig. But the truth tells you another story, as the official version at the time was that they were too f**kin' lazy to get off their lard arses to work anything original out. This view was reinforced by the artist formerly known as Sister Savage, who was reported to say at the time "why should we spend hours upon hours of our time trying to get together some original material when there are thousands or songs out there written for us? Besides nickin' other people's songs gives us more time for drinkin". The idea seems to have worked however as Sarnie reworkings of songs including crowd faves "500 miles" and "Kids in America" testify. The band have developed a unique sound and style, far flung from the original versions.

In the early years as Sister Savage the band were attracting attention and publicity (all be it bad). Following numerous complaints from the general public, the then bass player having gone AWOL immediately after a live performance and also due to the impending legal action by the Obscene Publication/Complaints Authority (something like that), the band decided that a name change might do more good than harm and so changed to Sister Sandwich and the Buttered Buns. When questioned about the name change at the time, a spokesman for the band was quoted as saying, "the band would just like to comment that this reaction from the public as a whole is simply typical of an outdated Victorian society that is hell bent on enforcing its fascist style censorship that sets to limit the artistic capabilities and development of our musicians today…still never mind eh?"

| Soon after, in
June 96, and what a damn fine summer that was, the band recorded something
clearly audible for the first time. "The Albun" was a mix of new
covers and old favourites that the band had been performing live since its
holy inception.
Four years later the Buns released their second album "Ready, Bready, Cook!" which was critically acclaimed by the band themselves (look someone has to blow their own trumpet). Estimates of over 300 copies of the album are in circulation. With half the band now based in ol' London town (cor blimey John, do wot!?) the band continued to gig regularly once a year. The original band members (bar one) left early 2003, having last performed live in June 2001. They
have continued to add to the success of the original band and have become
extremely popular in the West Midlands and have built up a reputation
for being ‘ as mad as a bunch of squirrels’ ‘ a bunch
of lunatics’ and as being ‘f**kin mental’ (Thanks Sarnie
fans!!!)
